Yes, these savoury Branston treats are not technically mince pies, but they make for a fantastic alternative for your guests to nibble at Christmas! Ingredients
- 1 tsp Branston Piccalilli per pie
- 500g shortcrust pastry, readymade
- 2 eggs
- 2 egg yolks, for the egg wash
- 50ml double cream or milk
- 100g cheddar, grated
- c.8 slices of ham
- Cracked black pepper, to season
Method
- Preheat your oven to 180ºC.
- Roll out the pastry to 3mm thickness then cut out disks to fit a cupcake pan and your pie tops using a 3” snowflake-shaped cutter and star-shaped cutter.
- Line a 12-hole cupcake/muffin tray with a thin coating of butter and then add the pastry and return both the lined tray and pie tops to the fridge to rest for half an hour.
- Combine the Branston Piccalilli, ham, cheese, egg, and cream in a bowl then spoon into the pastry cases.
- Top the mince pies with the star and snowflake-shaped pastry and bake for 30 - 35 minutes, until golden.
- Leave to cool and enjoy!
